The WIN TV Christmas Parade
The Christmas Parade, which has been functioning for over 50 years, is arguably one of the largest events of its type in regional Australia. It attracts a huge street audience of an estimated 15 to 20,000 people and is telecast each year by WIN TV throughout the South East and Riverland of South Australia.
Always held on the 3rd Saturday of November the Christmas Parade and Associated Brass Band Festival have become community events recognised widely throughout a vast area of the country through the involvement of the WIN TV network and the brass band community.
The Christmas Parade is an event of uniqueness in that it involves family, business, social and educational groups across the whole strata of the South East community as people come together as individuals and groups to share their talents in expressing the fun and joy of this special season.
The City of Mount Gambier have invested heavily in recent years in advancing the standard of the parade with a dedicated project officer
who designs and constructs new floats and renovates old ones for the event.
There is always room for another band or community group
to become involved in the festivities which commence early on the Saturday morning and carry on throughout the day.
Cash Awards and
trophies are given by WIN TV across a broad spectrum of categories for the most outstanding entries in the Christmas Parade.
Bands
receive a modest attendance fee for their involvement and those that catch the adjudicators attention also receive trophies and a
cash award for their marching and music efforts.
